Freeland, Mich -- Hope College’s Claire Hallock has been selected as the 2020 recipient of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association’s Karen Caine Award.

The scholar-athlete award honors Karen Caine, former long-time women’s tennis coach at Adrian College.

Hallock is a senior from Lakeland, Florida (Harrison Center HS). She is Hope’s fifth honoree since the award began in 2007.

On the court, Hallock played the top three singles flights and all three doubles flights during her Flying Dutch career. She finished fourth all-time at Hope with 80 singles wins in 93 matches and tied for third with 76 doubles wins in 102 matches.

Hallock became Hope’s first two-time Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-American last month. She is a three-time, All-MIAA selection, including Most Valuable Player honors as a junior in 2019.

Off the court, Hallock recently graduated from Hope College after completing a double major: B.S. in chemical engineering and B.A. in chemistry. She recorded a 3.7 grade point average.

Hallock claimed Intercollegiate Tennis Association Scholar Athlete honors in 2019 and made the MIAA Academic Honor Roll in 2017 and 2019.

Hallock worked as a research assistant for Hope’s engineering department in 2019. She also was a research and development intern for TreattUSA in Lakeland, Florida in 2018 and an engineering intern for the City of Lakeland, Florida in 2017.
