Around the MIAA

Adrian (5-6, 1-3)

Defeated Kalamazoo Dec. 17, 79-59, for their first MIAA win of the season.


Albion (9-2, 3-1)

Evelyn Wischmeyer (Lake Orion, Mich.) scored a career-high 26 and Rain Hinton (Fort Wayne, Ind./Woodlan) added a season-high 24 in Albion's victory over Franklin, Ind. Both have five 20-point games in their careers at Albion… Wischmeyer, who hit 6-of-9 from 3-point range, stuffed the box score with four steals and three assists…Hinton, who was 8of-13 from the field and 8-of-9 from the line, added four rebounds and two steals…Brooke Schutte (Turner, Mich./Arenac Eastern) collected a career-high five steals…Albion shot nearly 52 percent from the field (32-of-62) for the game. It was the second-best field goal percentage in a game this season

Alma (6-6, 1-3)

The women's basketball team fell on the road last Tuesday (Dec. 18) at Division II Lake Superior State University by a score of 87-69. Freshman guard Stasha Warchock (Marquette, Mich./Marquette) scored a team-high 13 points for the Scots. Sophomore center Jeny Brandt (Escanaba, Mich./Escanaba) scored 10 points and grabbed a game-high eight rebounds. This is the third time Brandt has finished with double-digit points, all coming in the last four games.


Calvin (6-5, 2-1)

Went 1-1 on the week, defeating Birmingham Southern Dec. 20, 65-49, before a 73-48 loss at Oglethorpe Dec. 21.


No. 5/5 Hope (9-1, 3-0)

Hope won both games at the Oglethorpe University Quality Suites Holiday Classic in Atlanta, Georgia. The Flying Dutch defeated Oglethorpe 64-46 behind 19 points and nine rebounds from senior forward Francesca Buchanan (Grant, Mich./Sparta) and Birmingham Southern 79-37 behind 13 points and eight rebounds from Buchanan. Buchanan was named the tournament's most valuable player. Sophomore guard Kenedy Schoonveld (Zeeland, Mich./Holland Christian) also made the all-tournament team.


Kalamazoo (0-9, 0-3)

The Kalamazoo College women's basketball team lost its only game last week 79-59 at Adrian College. Kaytlyn Tidey scored a career-high 25 points with three rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Georgie Andrews posted a double-double with 10 points, 12 rebounds, and four assists. Kalamazoo returns to action Dec. 28-29 in a tournament at Wittenberg. The Hornets face Heidelberg on the opening day of the tournament.


Olivet (5-6, 1-3)

Lost both contests last week, falling to Fontbonne Dec. 19, 69-65, and Hartwick Dec. 20, 74-52, in two games played in St. Petersburg, Fla.


Saint Mary's (5-7, 2-2)

Went 1-1 in two home games, rebounding from a 74-48 loss to Indiana-South Bend Dec. 17 with a 57-53 win over North Park Dec. 19.


No. 11/11 Trine (9-1, 3-0)

Defeated Defiance Dec. 19, 71-40, in their lone game last week.
