Around the MIAA

No. 22 Adrian

The Adrian College men’s indoor track and field team came in third place at the MIAA Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday. Senior Randy Fry became the first Bulldog to be named the ‘Most Valuable Runner’ of the conference in the indoor season. Fry won the 60-meter and 200-meter dashes, setting MIAA records in both. He ran a 6.85 in the 60-meter to set a PR and school record in addition to the conference record and ran a 22.31 in the 200-meter for the conference record. Fry is now eighth in the country in the 60-meter and ninth in the 200-meter. Fellow senior Jordan Davis was also named All-MIAA, winning the 60-meter hurdles all four years. His time of 8.03 is a new PR, school record, and conference record.


Albion

Richard Annorat secured the gold medal when he cleared 6' 8" in the high jump and the bronze medal in the 60-meter hurdles as Albion College finished fifth in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Men's Indoor Track and Field Championship.


Alma

The Scots wrapped up the indoor portion of the season at the MIAA Indoor Championships on Saturday (Feb. 23); the team finished in seventh place. In the men's pole vault, sophomore Nolan Rowland finished in sixth with a 3.85-meter leap. Senior Jared Fleming finished eighth in the 400-meter dash, crossing the finish line at 52.86 seconds, 0.63 seconds off his personal record.


Calvin

The Calvin men's Track and Field team claimed its third straight MIAA Indoor Track & Field Championship team title with 153 points on Saturday evening at the Alksnis facility. The Calvin men dominated the 5000-Meter Run claiming four out of the top five spots, including the three fastest times. Winning was senior Jamison Koeman crossing the finish line in a time of 15:31.58. Finishing in second was sophomore Jonathan Ellis recording a 15:33.86. Taking the third spot was junior Addison Smith with a time of 15:41.42. 


Hope

Hope finished fourth overall at the MIAA Championship, with a first-place result in the DMR in 10:48.53.


Olivet

The Olivet College men's indoor track & field team finished in sixth-place at the 2019 MIAA Championships. Junior Noah Bailey won the MIAA title in the triple jump with a 46 feet, 6 inch leap. He also finished in third-place in the long jump with a school-record mark of 22 feet, 7 inches. Sophomore Jacob Smith captured the MIAA title in the shot put with a school- and MIAA-record toss of 52 feet. The 4x400-meter relay team of Bailey, freshman Kyle McDowell, sophomore Tyler Peck and senior Chris Womack won the MIAA title in a school-record time of 3:26.00. McDowell was the runner-up in the 400-meter dash with a school-record time of 50.70 seconds.


No. 49 Trine

The Trine University men's indoor track and field team finished as runners up in the 2019 MIAA Championships hosted by Calvin. The Thunder finished with a team score of 121 points to place second out of seven teams. Host school Calvin took the team title with 153 points and Adrian was third at 105.5 points.
