Around the MIAA

Adrian

The Adrian College men’s track and field team competed at the Hillsdale Tune-Up last week and put itself in a good spot moving forward towards the MIAA Championships. Senior Randy Fry tied his own indoor school record in the 60-meter and set a new school record in the 200-meter, moving him into second and first, respectively, in the conference. Sophomore Donovan Ervin also set PRs in those two events, and moved into third in the MIAA for the 60-meter and second for the 200-meter.


Albion

Alma

Alma sent a partial team to compete at the Grand Valley State University Tune-Up Meet on Friday (Feb. 15). Sophomore Nolan Rowland (Battle Creek, Mich.) placed eighth in the men's pole vault at 3.88 meters. Junior Jacob Wildenhaus (Jackson, Mich.) finished sixth in the 60-meter hurdles while junior Payton Hirschenberger (Freeland, Mich.) ran in the 800-meter race for the first time in college, placing 27th.


Calvin

Hope

Hope College's Justin Freeman added another school record to his list of achievements with the Hope College men's track & field team. The senior from Holland, Mich. sprinted to the indoor 200-meter record with an adjusted time of 22.68 seconds at the Grand Valley State Tune-Up on Friday in Allendale, Michigan. Freeman passed the previous record of 22.82 seconds set by Boone Marois in 2016. Freeman won the 200-meter final that featured runners from NCAA Division I, II and III competitors.


Olivet

The Olivet College men's indoor track & field team placed fifth at the Hillsdale Tune-Up. Sophomore Jacob Smith won the shot put with a school-record mark of 51 feet, 9-3/4 inches. Junior Noah Bailey took first-place in the triple jump (44 feet, 8-3/4 inches) and fifth-place in the long jump (20 feet, 4-1/4 inches). Senior Kory Slaby had a personal-best mark of 47 feet, 8-1/2 inches in the weight throw. Senior Chris Womack finished second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 52.32 seconds. Sophomore Jaden Costa completed the mile run in a personal-best time of 4:57.40.
