Alma
The Scots finished 10th at the Lansing Invitational Oct. 4. Aubrey Hemstreet (Kalamazoo, Mich.) placed 13th among 175 women. Hemstreet ran a 19:10.5 5k, one-and-a-half seconds off a college best. Eight women broke their previous PRs in the race.
Calvin
The Knights took 21st place in the Gold Division of the Notre Dame Joe Piane Invitational on Friday with a team score of 565 points. Calvin was led by senior Michelle Koetje who finished the 5K course in a time of 18:32 that was good for 93rd place.
No. 23 Hope
Saturday's trip to the Greater Louisville Classic took an unexpected turn for the nationally ranked Hope College women's cross country team. The Flying Dutch finished fourth out of 37 teams in the Silver Division after the games committee decided to score the race at the 3.9K split due to a course mishap. Despite the disappointment, head coach Mark Northuis said the Flying Dutch gained confidence from their performance. "We ran very well," Northuis said. "The question was 'How we well do you handle the adversity?' We moved up in the last little bit. We beat several teams ranked ahead of us. We ran a really strong race." Freshman Ana Tucker (Midland, Mich.) led Hope by finishing in the top five in the 252-runner field. Senior Anna Frazee (Watervliet, Mich.) recorded the Flying Dutch's second-fastest run.
Kalamazoo
Kalamazoo finished 30th at a shortened Louisville Classic over the weekend. With the gate being opened at the wrong time due to a lapped runner, an alternate course was used for the event and the Games Committee determined that the race was scored at 3.9k. Anna Varitek led Kalamazoo with a time of 15:07 and Rachael Gallap times at 15:23. Gwendolyn Flatland (16:26), Rachel Cornell (17:21), and Kathryn LeVasseur (17:21) rounded out the tip five for the Hornets. Kalamazoo returns to action on Oct. 19 at the Inter-Regional Rumble hosted by Oberlin.
Olivet
Olivet was 16th at the Lansing Community College Invitational. Sophomore Kaylee Richardson ran the 5K course in 21:24.0 to be the Comets' first finisher. Freshman Savannah Baker completed the run in 22:06.1.
Saint Mary's
The Belles placed 23rd in a field of 37 teams at the Pre-National Race in Louisville, Kentucky on Saturday. According to race officials, a gate was opened at the wrong time due to a lapped runner, which caused the field to deviate to an alternate course for safety of spectators. The Games Committee determined that the race will be scored at 3.9k (last split point). Julia O'Grady had the top time for Saint Mary's with a 14:44.3 and was 65th at the final split point. Katie Glenn crossed the check point in a time of 15:16.5 and was 121st.
Trine
Placed 16th at the University of Louisville Cross Country Classic... Evie Bultemeyer continued to have a strong season evident of her runner-up performance among a field of 253 total runners. She ran a time of 21:21.0 in a race that was shortened from the scheduled 6k distance.
