Calvin, Hope, Individuals to Represent MIAA at NCAA Women's Cross Country Championships

Two Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association women's cross country teams and two individual standouts will compete at 2018 NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships Nov. 17, hosted at Lake Breeze Golf Club in Winneconne, Wis.

After strong seasons overall, Calvin and Hope both gained at-large berths to the national championship. Also advancing to Saturday's championship are Albion's Cassie Vince and Trine's Evonne Bultemeyer.

At the Great Lakes Regional Nov. 10, Hope and Calvin placed fourth and fifth, respectively, in a close finish where the top five teams were separated by only 27 points. Outside of the automatic berths for the region, the Flying Dutch and the Knights garnered two of 16 available at-large berths.

Individually, Albion's Vince was the top MIAA finisher, placing third with a time of 21:20.1; two weeks ago, Vince was the individual champion at the MIAA Cross Country Championships. Trine's Bultemeyer finished ninth overall with a time of 21:59.7. Coupled with Calvin's Katie Diekema (fourth, 21:41.0) and Hope's Emily Hamilton (12th, 22:11.9), the MIAA had four of the region's top 12 finishers.
