Hope Women Capture Great Lakes Cross Country Regional Championship

NCAA Great Lakes Regional Results

For the third year in a row, Hope captured the team title at the 2017 NCAA Division III Women's Cross Country Great Lakes Regional Nov. 11, as the Flying Dutch combined for a team score of 88 points thanks to all five scoring runners finishing in the top 25 to advance to the NCAA Championships Nov. 18.

Calvin took second place overall with 113 points, edging third-place Allegheny by four points to earn the team an automatic berth to the NCAA Championships.

At the 1.95K split, Calvin and Hope were neck-and-neck and were on target to tie for the team title. But at the 5K split Hope had pulled away as a group past Calvin.

Calvin's Katie Diekema was the top MIAA finisher, crossing eighth overall with a time of 22:32.4. Hope's Alissa Frazee was next, finishing 11th with a time of 22:49.1, edging MIAA challengers Allison Snyder of Albion (12th, 22:49.1) and teammate Emily Hamilton (13th, 22:51.4). In all, the MIAA had 14 finishers in the top 33 runners representing four institutions.

Along with Hope and Calvin advancing to the NCAA Championships, Albion's Snyder will also compete in the 6K event at the North Farm Facility in Elsah, Illinois.
