Hope College's Becky Schmidt Tabbed 2023 MIAA Volleyball Coach of the Year

HUDSONVILLE, Mich. -- The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) proudly announces Hope College's Becky Schmidt as the 2023 Volleyball Coach of the Year.

This prestigious accolade is a coaches vote based on the achievements of their colleagues both during regular- and post-season competition.

Schmidt was selected as the 2023 Volleyball Coach of the Year after leading the Flying Dutch to an undefeated regular season, the MIAA Tournament title, and an overall record of 27-2 heading into the 2023 NCAA Division III Volleyball Tournament.  In her 20th season at the helm of the program, Schmidt landed four players on the All-MIAA Team, including 2023 MIAA Most Valuable Player Addie VanderWeide.

Under the leadership of Schmidt, Hope is currently ranked second in the nation.

Since taking over the program in 2003, the Hope alum (1994) has led the Flying Dutch to eight MIAA regular-season championships, five MIAA Tournament titles, fifteen trips to the NCAA Division III Tournament, and the program's first national championship in 2014.

Hope will host Bethany College in the first round of the NCAA Division III Volleyball Tournament this Thursday, November 16, at 7:00 p.m.
