All-MIAA - Volleyball - 2023

HUDSONVILLE, Mich. -- Head coaches from the nine Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association's (MIAA) member institutions that sponsor volleyball voted on All-MIAA awards following the conclusion of the 2023 regular season.

Hope College junior outside hitter Addie VanderWeide was voted the 2023 MIAA Most Valuable Player after leading the Flying Dutch to the regular-season championship title with an unblemished conference record (8-0) and the top seed in the 2023 MIAA Volleyball Tournament.  In league play alone, VanderWeide finished the regular season as the MIAA's leader with 115 kills, 4.79 kills per set, 125.5 points, and 5.2 points per set.  She also landed in the top ten with 252 total attacks and a hitting percentage of .349.  VanderWeide was selected as MIAA Volleyball Player of the Week three times this season.

Junior Mya Minjares of Adrian College is now a two-time MIAA Defensive Player of the Year.  Minjares assisted the Bulldogs to a 5-3 mark in league play which seeded Adrian fourth in the 2023 MIAA Volleyball Tournament.  In conference competition alone, Minjares concluded the regular season as the MIAA's leader in digs (153) and digs per set (5.28).  She was selected as the MIAA Volleyball Specialist of the Week on October 2.  Minjares became a three-time All-MIAA recipient this season.

Albion College defensive specialist Paige Williamson was named the 2023 MIAA Freshman Player of the Year.  Williamson helped the Brits to a league record of 7-1 this season and the No. 2 seed for the 2023 MIAA Volleyball Tournament.  In conference play alone, Williamson finished top ten in the MIAA with 14 service aces, 153 receptions, 124 digs, and 4.43 digs per set.  She earned MIAA Volleyball Specialist of the Week on October 16.

Senior Jenna Schienke of Albion College received the 2023 Senior Impact Award.  Schienke has played outside, right side, and as an offensive right back player.  She has done any job the Brits have needed her to and her teammates play great around her because of her energy and leadership.  Academically, Schienke boasts a 3.91 grade-point average.  She is in the Wilson Institute for Medicine, has made the Dean's List and the MIAA Honor Roll every semester, and was the Exercise Science Student of the Year her junior year.  Schienke has been on Albion's leadership team for four years and has helped us make a huge impact in the community.  She has organized the team volunteering at Kids n' Stuff (the kids museum in downtown Albion), the welcome-back event for Harrington Elementary, Albion's free kids clinic, and helps run the campus-wide winter carnival event.  Schienke works in the Sports Information Department and promotes athletic events, prioritizing the student-athlete experience while on the SAAC executive board.  She has also organized Albion's awards night, DIII Week promotions, and has helped connect other teams to community service opportunities.  This year, Schienke is the SAAC president and is currently fundraising for the winter carnival event.  She takes pride in being a DIII female student-athlete and the impact she can have on our campus.

Adrian's Minjares and both Albion's Olivia Alexander and Mariah Brenz all became three-time All-MIAA honorees this season.  The list of two-time All-MIAA players includes Calvin University's Alyssa DeVries and Hope's Alison DeWeerd and Lauren Lee.
