Seven MIAA Volleyball Squads Earn USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- On July 13, seven volleyball programs from the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) were announced as 2022-23 recipients of the Team Academic Award by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) and the United State Marine Corps (USMC).

The award, initiated in the 1992–93 academic year, honors volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale or 4.1 on a 5.0 scale.

Out of 1,343 collegiate and high school volleyball programs, the AVCA recognized seven member institutions from the MIAA.

The additional distinction of Team Academic Honor Roll celebrates programs in the top 20% of GPAs for their division.  Kalamazoo College represents the conference on the 2022-23 Honor Roll this season.

Other MIAA notables: Hope's program was honored as an AVCA Team Academic Award team for the fifteenth-straight year, while Calvin's program is being recognized for the fourteenth-straight year; Saint Mary's extended its recognition to thirteen-consecutive seasons; this is both Albion and Trine's eleventh-consecutive year receiving the Academic Award; Kalamazoo has been named to the Academic Award list for ten-straight seasons; Adrian has been recognized for eight-consecutive years.
