MIAA Sweeps AVCA Region 7 Specialty Awards; Seven MIAA Volleyball Players Deemed All-Region

Seven volleyball players from the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) were announced to All-Region 7 Teams by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) on November 10, 2022.  Additionally, all three regional specialty awards were swept by members of the MIAA.

Calvin University senior Heidi Westra was deemed the Region 7 Player of the Year by the AVCA.  Westra was previously selected as the 2022 MIAA Most Valuable Player after leading the Knights to the regular-season championship with a perfect 8-0 record.  She currently leads the MIAA with 4.61 kills per set and 5.4 points per set, while also landing in the top five for total kills (415), attacks (997), and points (486.0).

Hope College newcomer Lauren Lee was tabbed the Region 7 Freshman of the Year prior to the start of the NCAA Division III Tournament.  The setter was previously named the 2022 MIAA Freshman Player of the Year after leading the Flying Dutch to a 7-1 mark in league play.  Lee currently leads the conference with 1,106 assists and is second in the league with 11.06 assists per set and 56 service aces.  Hope currently has an overall record of 22-7 after upsetting ninth-ranked Wittenberg in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

Head coach Amber Warners, who is currently in her 21st season at the helm of the Calvin program, was selected as the Region 7 Coach of the Year for the seventh time in her career.  She has also been tabbed as the National Coach of the Year four times.  This season, Warners has led the Knights to their 18th-straight NCAA Division III Volleyball Tournament.  Calvin currently holds a record of 26-3 in the midst of regional play.

Along with Westra and Lee, Albion College's Chloe Webber, Calvin's Alyssa DeVries and Aubrey Wrubel, and Hope's Annie Lockett were all selected to the All-Region 7 Team.

Fifth-year senior middle blocker Chloe Webber became a three-time All-MIAA honoree this season after leading the Brits to a 6-2 conference record (25-6 overall).  Webber earned the 2022 Senior Impact Award.  She closed out the year as the MIAA's leader in sets (113), kills (420), hitting percentage (.373), block assists (106), total blocks (124), blocks per set (1.10), and points (525.0).

Freshman setter Alyssa DeVries was selected to the All-MIAA Second Team in her first year.  DeVries is currently leading the conference with 11.16 assists per set and is ranked third in the MIAA with a total of 1,083 assists.

Senior libero Aubrey Wrubel became a four-time All-MIAA honoree this season after earning a spot on the First Team.  Wrubel currently leads the league with a total of 498 digs.

Sophomore outside hitter Annie Lockett received First Team All-MIAA recognition for the first time in her career this year.  Lockett currently leads the MIAA with 1,050 total attacks and is second in both kills per set (4.02) and points per set (4.7).

Senior middle hitter Tori Roskamp received an Honorable Mention from the AVCA.  The Knight earned a spot on the All-MIAA First Team for the first time in her career this season.  She is currently second in the league with a hitting percentage of .366.
