Six MIAA Volleyball Players Deemed All-Americans by AVCA

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- On November 15, 2022, six student-athletes from the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) were announced as All-Americans by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA).

The 2022 class includes 42 players—14 on the first, second, and third teams—from 26 schools.

Calvin University senior Heidi Westra was selected to the All-America First Team after previously being named the Region 7 Player of the Year.  Westra was voted the 2022 MIAA Most Valuable Player after leading the Knights to the regular-season championship with a perfect 8-0 record.  She currently leads the MIAA with 459 kills, 4.68 kills per set, 537.5 points, and 5.5 points per set.  Westra is also currently ranked top five in the conference with 1,092 total attacks and a hitting percentage of .305.

Hope College freshman setter Lauren Lee and Calvin senior libero Aubrey Wrubel were both named to the All-America Third Team.

Lee was tabbed the Region 7 Freshman of the Year prior to the start of the NCAA Division III Tournament.  The setter was previously named the 2022 MIAA Freshman Player of the Year after leading the Flying Dutch to a 7-1 mark in league play.  Lee currently leads the league with 1,210 assists.  She is also ranked top five with 11.10 assists per set, 57 service aces, and 0.52 service aces per set.

Wrubel became a four-time All-MIAA honoree this season after earning a spot on the First Team.  Wrubel currently leads the conference with a total of 535 digs and is second with 5.10 digs per set.

Calvin's Alyssa DeVries, Hope's Annie Lockett, and Albion's Chloe Webber were all announced as Honorable Mention All-Americans.

DeVries was selected to the All-MIAA Second Team in her first year.  DeVries is currently leading the conference with 11.15 assists per set and is ranked second in the MIAA with a total of 1,171 assists.

Lockett received First Team All-MIAA recognition for the first time in her career this year.  She currently leads the MIAA with 1,135 total attacks and is second in kills (437), kills per set (4.01), and points per set (4.6).

Webber became a three-time All-MIAA honoree this season after leading the Brits to a 6-2 conference record (25-6 overall) and earned the 2022 Senior Impact Award.  She is currently the MIAA's leader in sets (113), hitting percentage (.373), block assists (106), total blocks (124), and blocks per set (1.10).
