AUSTIN, Texas -- Three volleyball players from the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) were announced as Academic All-Americans® by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on December 16, including Hope College's Tracy Westra and McKenna Otto, along with Calvin University's Anna Schriemer.
Hope senior Tracy Westra earned a spot on the CoSIDA Academic All-America® First Team after recording a grade-point average of 3.78. Westra was voted the 2021 MIAA Most Valuable Player after leading the Flying Dutch to the regular-season title. She is a two-time All-MIAA player and a three-time member of the MIAA Honor Roll. Westra is only the second Hope volleyball player to receive First Team All-America® honors from CoSIDA.
Seven of this year’s student-athletes on the three teams are repeat selections from 2020-21, including Hope senior McKenna Otto. Otto was named to the Academic All-America® Second Team for her second-straight season. She has a GPA of 3.68 as a Biomedical and Biomechanical Engineering major. Otto has been a member of the MIAA Academic Honor Roll for three years and is a four-time All-MIAA honoree.
Calvin's Anna Schriemer was selected to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Third Team after boasting a grade-point average of 3.84 as a Psychology major. Schriemer assisted the Knights to the MIAA Tournament title, along with a trip to the NCAA Championship match. She is a three-time member of the MIAA Academic Honor Roll.
