HOLLAND, Mich. -- Second-seeded Calvin University edged first-seeded Hope College, 3-2, on November 6 to earn the program's 16th Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Volleyball Tournament title.

In a back-and-forth match, Calvin claimed the first set (25-23) and the second set (25-20).  Hope tied the match after winning the next two sets 25-22 and 25-23.  The Knights took the fifth set with a score of 15-12.

Calvin led 65-52 in kills and had a 106-95 edge in digs.  Hope led in service aces with a total of 10.

Two-time All-MIAA honoree Heidi Westra hit a match-best .281.  She also led the Knights with 22 kills, 27 digs, and 24.0 points.  Anna Schriemer totaled 24 digs for Calvin, while First Time All-MIAA recipient Kelsey Smith hit .244.

Leading the Flying Dutch, Molly Ligon had a team-best hitting percentage of .240.  The MIAA's 2021 Defensive Player of the Year, Maggie Wehrmeyer, tallied a match-best 35 digs.  Three-time All-MIAA player Ana Grunewald had a game-best four service aces and totaled 16 kills.

 

Calvin receives the automatic bid into the 2021 NCAA Volleyball Championship.  The DIII selection show is scheduled for November 8 at 12:30 p.m. ET.  The NCAA Regionals will take place November 12-14.
