Eight MIAA Volleyball Programs Recognized by USMC/AVCA for Academic Success

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- On July 18, eight volleyball teams from the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) were announced as 2021-22 recipients of the Team Academic Award by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) and the United State Marine Corps (USMC).

The award, initiated in the 1992–93 academic year, honors volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale or 4.1 on a 5.0 scale.

Out of 1,213 collegiate and high school volleyball programs, the AVCA recognized 212 NCAA Division III women's teams, including eight member institutions from the MIAA.

The top 20% of team GPAs from each division are designated as Team Academic Honor Roll schools, representing the highest scholarly achievement in the sport.  Hope College represents the conference on the 2021-22 Honor Roll this season.

Other MIAA notables: Hope's program was honored as an AVCA Team Academic Award team for the 14th-straight year, while Calvin's program is being recognized for the 13th-straight year; Saint Mary's extended its recognition to 12-consecutive seasons; this is both Albion and Trine's 10th-consecutive year receiving the Academic Award; Kalamazoo has been named to the Academic Award list for nine-straight seasons; Adrian has been recognized for seven-consecutive years and Olivet for four.
