Four MIAA Volleyball Players Tabbed CoSIDA Academic All-District Honorees

Four volleyball players from the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) were selected to 2021 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Teams.  All four student-athletes will advance to the national ballot for CoSIDA Academic All-America®.

The 2020-21 Academic All-District Women’s Volleyball Team, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom.  First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in early July.

Those named to the All-District 6 Team include Hope's Adair Cutler and McKenna Otto.  Jacqueline Baughman of Trine and Morgan VanderWey of Saint Mary's were both selected to the All-District 7 Team.

Cutler, a Mathematics major at Hope, earned a perfect grade point average of 4.00 while assisting the Flying Dutch to the MIAA Volleyball Tournament crown and a 9-1 overall record (6-1 MIAA).  The senior setter concluded conference play top five in the league with 142 assists and 5.92 assists per set.  Cutler was named to the MIAA Academic Honor Roll for three-straight years (2018-20).

Otto boasts a 3.68 GPA in her studies of Biomedical/Biochemical Engineering at Hope.  Contributing to the MIAA Tournament Championship team, the junior concluded the year second overall in block assists (28), total blocks (34), and blocks per set (1.00), while also finishing top five in both points per set (4.3) and solo blocks (6).  Otto has been selected to the MIAA Academic Honor Roll twice (2019, 2020).

As an Exercise Science/Pre-Physical Therapy major at Trine, Baughman has an impeccable GPA of 4.00.  Baughman helped the Thunder to an overall record of 8-5 and a 3-4 mark in league contests.  The senior setter concluded the regular season second in both assists (227) and assists per set (9.46).  After finishing with a 4.00 GPA in 2019, Baughman was named to both the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team and the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Team.

Saint Mary's Nursing major VanderWey earned a 3.94 grade point average.  Although Saint Mary's opted out of the spring 2021 season, the senior has competed in a total of 83 matches in her career and has been serving as a team captain.  VanderWey totaled 2,853 career assists to finish fourth all-time in Saint Mary's history.

CoSIDA's NCAA Division III District 6 includes Michigan, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. District 7 includes Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio.  Members of CoSIDA from the district vote on Academic All-District® honors. Student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 GPA on a 4.0 scale and must have completed one full calendar year at the nominating institution to be eligible.
