Calvin Volleyball Clinches Spring 2021 MIAA Regular-Season Title, Tournament Bracket Released

Freeland, Mich -- Calvin University volleyball was crowned the spring 2021 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) regular-season champion after the final conference contests on April 16.  The Knights will compete as the top-seeded team in the MIAA Volleyball Tournament, which begins on Tuesday, April 20.

Regular-Season Champion

Amid the uncertainty of college athletics in the 2020-2021 academic year, the MIAA scheduled what would have been the fall 2020 season in the spring of 2021.  The season consisted of seven conference games beginning on March 19.

Calvin went undefeated in conference play with a mark of 7-0.  This is the fourth-consecutive year and the 16th time in program history that the Knights have earned the MIAA Championship title.

MIAA Volleyball Tournament

In the spring of 2021, the MIAA expanded the competition to an eight team consolation tournament allowing all schools to compete for the league tournament championship.

Since there were not any cancellations due to COVID-19, seeding was determined as normal.  Calvin, Hope, and Albion will compete as the top three seeds, respectively.  Trine is the No. 4 seed by virtue of its head-to-head victory against Alma (No. 5).  Adrian will play as the sixth-seeded team due to a head-to-head win against Kalamazoo (No. 7).  Eighth-seeded Olivet rounds out the competition.

The tournament will begin with the quarterfinals on Tuesday, April 20.  The semifinals will take place on Thursday, April 22, followed by the final on Saturday, April 24.
