Calvin Beats Hope in Four to Win NCAA Division III Volleyball Regional

Facing familiar foes in the first three rounds of the 2019 NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball Championship, the Calvin volleyball team had familiar results to advance to the National Quarterfinals Thursday, Nov. 21 at Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Calvin defeated DePauw in the opening round, 3-0, and Ohio Northern in the Second Round, 3-1 - both teams that the Knights defeated earlier this season. In the Regional Final, the Knights battled MIAA rival Hope for the fourth time this season, with Calvin prevailing, 3-1. Calvin went 3-1 this season against Hope; Hope was one of just two teams to hand Calvin a loss thus far in 2019.

Hope advanced to the Regional Final after wins against Texas-Dallas (3-2) and Muskingum (3-2); it was the first time Hope advanced to the Regional Final since Hope's national championship in 2014.

After the re-seeding of the final eight teams, Calvin received the No. 3 seed and will face No. 6 seed Trinity (Texas) Thursday, Nov. 21 at 9 p.m. ET. The winner of that match will take on the winner of Johns Hopkins and Saint Benedict Friday, Nov 22 at 8:30 p.m. ET. The National Championship will be contested Satuday, Nov. 23 at 8 p.m. ET.

An MIAA team has participated in the NCAA Semifinals or Championship game in eight of the last 10 years, including the last three seasons.
