Two Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association volleyball student-athletes were named to the 2019 Academic All-District® Division III Volleyball Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), on Thursday for their academic and athletic success.
Calvin's Sarah DeVries (Sr., MH/S, Grand Rapids, Mich.) was voted to the All-District® 6 First Team for the second consecutive year. Trine's Jacqueline Baughman (Jr., S, Lake Orion, Mich.) voted to the All-District® 7 First Team.
As First-Team All-District selections, DeVries and Baughman are now eligible for CoSIDA Academic All-America® honors.
A nursing major, DeVries has been a three-time member of the MIAA Academic Honor Roll and a six-time member of the Calvin Dean's List. On the court DeVries was recently named the MIAA's Most Valuable Player and landed a spot on the All-MIAA First Team for the third consecutive year. A year ago DeVries was named the AVCA Division III National Player of the Year.
Baughman, an Exercise Science Pre Physical Therapy major, has exhibited excellence in the classroom by accumulating a 4.00 GPA. Baughman was named to the All-MIAA First Team and earned two MIAA Volleyball Specialist of the Week awards this year.
CoSIDA's NCAA Division III District 6 includes Michigan, Minnesota, and Wisconsin; District 7 covers Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio. Members of CoSIDA from the district vote on Academic All-District® honors. Student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 GPA on a 4.0 scale and must have completed one full calendar year at the nominating institution to be eligible.
