Calvin, Hope advance to MIAA Volleyball Tournament title match

Friday's MIAA Volleyball Tournament semifinal contests are in the books, setting the stage for Saturday's title match:

Hope 3, Saint Mary's 1

Courtney Van Housen (Sr., Traverse City, Mich.) and Katie Rietberg (So., Holland, Mich.) had 16 and 15 kills, respectively, to lead Hope past Saint Mary's Friday evening, 3-1. After pulling away in the first set for a 25-16 win, the Flying Dutch had to fend off Saint Mary's in three closely contested sets. For the match, Hope hit .208 percent and out-blocked the Belles 16-2; Van Housen had a match-best seven blocks.

Calvin 3, Adrian 1

The Knights rallied back from a first-set loss to defeat Adrian in Friday's nightcap, 3-1. Three players hit double figures in kills for Calvin, led by Tessa Van Laare (Jr., Toronto, Ontario) and her 15 kills. Jenna Lodewyk (Jr., Villa Park, Ill.) guided the attack with 43 assists; Laura Danhoff (Sr., Willard, Ohio) had 13 kills and a team-best five service aces.
