LEXINGTON, Ky. – The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced Monday (July 24) its list of teams that earned the AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2016-17 academic year. Among the organization's record-breaking 822 programs, eight MIAA programs achieved the AVCA's standard.
Adrian College, Albion College, Alma College, Calvin College, Hope College, Kalamazoo College, Saint Mary's College, and Trine University all maintained a 3.30 cumulative team GPA for the 2016-17 academic year.
Of note, Alma was among the nation's top 25 academically.
Calvin was one of five programs that not only achieved the academic standard, but were national champions at their respective levels; prior to 2016-17, just 29 teams over 25 seasons had achieved the feat.
Teams must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 during the school year.
