Sells lifts Alma to five-set victory

ALBION, Mich. – Kendall Sells terminated three points late in the fifth set to lift Alma College to a 22-25, 23-25, 25-16, 25-18, 15-12 victory over Albion College in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association volleyball action inside Kresge Gymnasium.

Sells led all players with 19 kills.

Attack errors on consecutive points and a Halle Thom kill boosted Albion to a 4-1 lead in the fifth set. Alma rallied to forge a tie at 6-6 as Albion committed a ball handling error and Molly Lark served an ace. The teams traded points from there until Alma reeled off three points (two on kills by Sells and an Albion attack error) to build a 13-10 lead.

Albion hit .175 and .240 in the first two sets to build an early lead in the contest. Taylor Rosenthal reached a career-high with 16 kills. Halle Thom and Lauren Outwater finished with 15 kills apiece. Stephanie Thurner contributed 10 kills and three blocks.

Albion plays at home again Friday night at 6:30 against Calvin College.
