Block Party

ALBION, Mich. – Eager to enjoy the reminder of fall break, Albion College made quick work of Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rival Olivet College Saturday afternoon. Albion swept the Comets by scores of 25-23, 25-13, 25-22 to improve to 14-9 overall.

Stephanie Thurner and Lauren Outwater produced 10 kills apiece, but it was the work Thurner and Jessica Konieczny did in the middle of the floor that made the difference. Thurner finished with a solo block and three block assists and Konieczny chipped in with four block assists. Taylor Rosenthal knocked down three blocks – a solo and two assists.

"Olivet's strength is their hitters making big swings," Albion Coach Kristen de St. Aubin said. "We relied on our blockers to take their momentum away. We didn't allow their offense to get going."

Ami Milligan terminated a point and Rachel Zawodny served an ace as Albion scored three in a row to gain control of the first set by building a 23-20 lead.

Thurner terminated two points and Angela Adams served an ace to help Albion build a 6-1 lead in the second set.

Olivet had three attack errors and Konieczny knocked down a kill as Albion scored the first four of the third set.

Albion is off until an Oct. 20 home match against Alma College.
