No. 14 Hope Volleyball Sweeps Kalamazoo, Heidelberg At Home

The 14th-ranked Hope College volleyball team heads into an extended mid-season break on a four-match win streak.

The Flying Dutch swept Kalamazoo and Heidelberg, Ohio on Saturday at DeVos Fieldhouse to raise their record to 11-4 overall.

Hope is now idle until a Tuesday, Oct. 6 home match against Olivet.

Against Kalamazoo, the Flying Dutch downed their MIAA foe 25-11, 26-24, 25-10 behind 24 assists from senior setter Lauren Hazekamp of Fruitport, Michigan (Fruitport HS). Hope improved to 6-1 in MIAA play.

Sophomore Haley Muller of Grand Rapids, Michigan (Grand Rapids Christian HS), led a balanced Hope attack with nine kills. Freshman Katie Rietberg of Holland, Michigan (West Ottawa HS), had eight against the Hornets (1-13, 0-6).

Against Heidelberg, Hope won 25-17, 25-21, 25-20 as Rietberg collected a match-high 12 kills. Hazekamp had 32 assists and a match-high 18 digs.

Junior middle hitter Courtney Van Houzen of Traverse City, Michigan (Traverse City West HS), added nine kills against the Student Princes (12-5).
