No. 12 Hope Volleyball Splits Opening Matches At Wittenberg Fall Classic

The Hope College volleyball team split its two matches to open the Wittenberg Fall Classic Friday in Springfield, Ohio.

The 12th-ranked Flying Dutch are now 6-3 overall after sweeping Otterbein, Ohio in the first match, then losing to seventh-ranked Wittenberg in a four-set marathon.

Against Otterbein, Hope won 27-25, 25-17, 25-21 behind a match-high 17 kills from junior outside hitter Sarah Feldpausch of White Cloud, Michigan (White Cloud HS).

Sophomore outside hitter Haley Muller of Grand Rapids, Michigan (Grand Rapids Christian HS) chipped in 10 kills, while senior setter Lauren Hazekamp of Fruitport, Michigan (Fruitport HS), collected 42 assists, nine digs and three kills.

Senior libero Allie Mitchell of Grand Rapids, Michigan (Forest Hills Eastern HS), led the Flying Dutch with 20 digs.

Against Wittenberg, Hope lost 25-20, 20-25, 32-30, 25-22 despite 18 kills from Muller and 15 from Feldpausch. Junior middle hitter Courtney Van Houzen of Traverse City, Michigan (Traverse City West HS), added nine kills.

Hazekamp collected 41 assists, while Mitchell led with 18 digs.

Hope concludes the tournament Saturday with a noon match against DePauw, Indiana and a 6 p.m. match against Ohio Northern.
