Hope Volleyball Sweeps Alma In Home Opener

Late rallies in the first two sets propelled the Hope College volleyball team to a 3-0 sweep of Alma in Friday's home opener.

The ninth-ranked Flying Dutch improved to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play with a 25-22, 25-20, 25-20 victory.

Hope plays at second-ranked Calvin on Saturday at 7 p.m.

The Flying Dutch fended off Alma's challenge in front of a DeVos Fieldhouse crowd of 783 by scoring the final five points in the opening set and seven of the final 10 in the second set.

Junior outside hitter Sarah Feldpausch of White Cloud, Michigan (White Cloud HS), led Hope with 16 kills.

Sophomore outside hitter Haley Muller of Grand Rapids, Michigan (Grand Rapids Christian HS), chipped in 15 kills, including the final three in the opening set. She hit a team-best .308.

Senior setter Lauren Hazekamp of Fruitport, Michigan (Fruitport HS), contributed 39 assists, a team-high 21 digs and six kills.

Alma dropped to 1-5 overall and 1-1 in MIAA play.
