No. 9 Hope Volleyball Outlasts Albion Behind Record-Setting Performance

Sophomore Haley Muller's record-setting performance helped the Hope College volleyball team rally past an improved Albion in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association opener on Wednesday.

The outside hitter from Grand Rapids, Michigan (Grand Rapids Christian HS), totaled a match-high 24 kills during a 23-25, 25-15, 25-20, 31-29 road win.

Muller set a school record for kills in a four-set match using a 25-point format. She passed the previous mark of 23 set by Jenna Grasmeyer vs. Calvin.

The ninth-ranked Flying Dutch improved to 3-1 overall while handing the Britons their first loss in five matches this season.

Muller's final kill of the night scored the final point of the match. She followed junior Sarah Feldpausch's kill that gave Hope its fourth opportunity to serve for the match.

Muller hit .465 against Albion with only four errors in 43 attempts.

Feldpausch also reached double figures in kills. The outside hitter from White Cloud, Michigan (White Cloud HS), had 14.

Senior setter Lauren Hazekamp of Fruitport, Michigan (Fruitport HS), chipped in 37 assists and 11 digs.

Senior Allie Mitchell of Grand Rapids, Michigan (Forest Hills Eastern HS), led Hope with 22 digs.

The Flying Dutch return to action on Friday, Sept. 11 at 6:30 p.m. with a MIAA match against Alma on the DeVos Fieldhouse Main Court. It is Hope's home opener.
