No. 3-Ranked Hope Volleyball Tops Millikin, Edged By Chicago

Junior Sarah Feldpausch set a career-high in kills for the third-ranked Hope College volleyball team while the Flying Dutch split their final two matches at the University of Chicago Gargoyle Classic on Saturday.

The outside hitter from White Cloud, Michigan (White Cloud HS), recorded a match-high 21 kills during a 23-25, 25-23, 5-21, 25-27, 15-7 defeat to Chicago in the tournament finale.

Earlier in the day, Hope received 11 kills from sophomore Haley Muller of Grand Rapids, Michigan (Grand Rapids Christian HS) and 10 from Feldpausch in a 25-16, 25-13, 25-22 victory against Millikin, Illinois.

The Flying Dutch will take a 2-1 record into Wednesday's Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association opener at Albion.

Hope forced a winner-to-15 fifth set by scoring the final two points off the fourth set on a Feldpausch kill and a block from junior Courtney Van Houzen of Traverse City, Michigan (Traverse City West HS).

Chicago (3-0) used a string of nine consecutive points in the fifth set to take a commanding 10-3 lead.

Senior setter Lauren Hazekamp of Fruitport, Michigan (Fruitport HS), contributed 40 assists 17 digs and nine kills against Chicago. 

Hope returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 9 with the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association opener at Albion.
