GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Adam Haldorson has been named head track and field coach at Calvin University.

Haldorson comes to Calvin from George Fox University, located in Newberg, Oregon. He has been the associate head track and field coach since 2013 and has served as the school's head strength and conditioning coach since 2012.

As associate head track and field coach, Haldorson has been a two-time USTFCCCA Division III Women's Outdoor Track and Field National Assistant Coach of the Year (2018 & 2019). He is the only individual in USTFCCCA history to receive the honor in back-to-back years. In addition, he has been a 13-time USTFCCCA Regional Assistant Coach of the Year, doing so nine times on the women's side (six indoor and three outdoor) and four times on the men's side (two outdoor and two indoor).

He helped the George Fox women's track and field program capture the 2018 NCAA III Outdoor National Title while also placing third three times at the indoor or outdoor level between 2016-2019.

At George Fox, his coaching responsibilities included sprints, hurdles, and the high jump while assisting head coach John Smith in dayto-day activities and the combined events. He also served as meet director for all home events during the indoor and outdoor seasons.

Haldorson helped produce four national champions, 26 All-Americans, 22 Academic-All-Americans, 40 Northwest Conference Champions, 76 All-NWC athletes, and 47 national qualifiers.

Haldorson is also a certified strength and condition specialist through the NSCA. As a strength and conditioning coach Haldorson worked with 15 programs at George Fox. He also taught select courses in the George Fox Health and Human Performances Department. Haldorson graduated from George Fox in 2009 with a degree in history and went on to earn his M.A. in teaching in 2011. His undergraduate studies included an emphasis in near east antiquities and western Roman history. As an undergraduate at George Fox, he was a member of the school's cross country and track and field programs. He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and holds several coaching certifications from the USTFCCCA Track and Field Academy.

"I am very excited to have Adam join our (Calvin) coaching staff," said Calvin Director of Athletics Dr. Jim Timmer. "Adam's experience at George Fox University and its highly successful track and field program made him a clear choice for our search committee as Calvin's next head track and field coach. He has a strong Christian faith. His faith has grown at George Fox which is a partner to Calvin in the Christian academic community. We strongly believe that student-athletes will flourish under his leadership. Combined with the recent hire of our new head cross country coach Nicole Kramer we feel that there are great things ahead for our cross country and track and field programs."

Haldorson is looking forward to the challenge and joining a tradition-rich Calvin track and field program. "I would like to first thank Calvin President Dr. Wiebe Boer, Calvin Provost Dr. Noah Toly and Calvin Director of Athletics Dr. Jim Timmer as well as the search committee for this opportunity and bringing me into the Calvin family," said Haldorson. "I'm excited to be a part of a program where I can live out my faith life authentically and be a part of such an historic track and field program.  I feel that I will be standing on the shoulders of giants as we step into next chapter of the program's history."

Haldorson plans to arrive at Calvin in early September. In mid-October he will travel back to Oregon to marry his fiance' Rachel before they both return to Grand Rapids as newlyweds.

"My fiance' Rachel and I are both very excited about moving to Grand Rapids and becoming part of the Calvin community," said Haldorson. "We are looking forward to connect the storied tradition of Calvin's past and enthusiastic alumni base with the future of the program."
