Hope Wins Fifth-Straight MIAA Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championship

Hope won the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championship for the fifth-consecutive season after finishing the final day of events with a total of 240 points.

Hope College set an MIAA record with a time of 47.72 in the 4x100m relay.  The previous time of 48.00 was set by Calvin in 2002.  The winning Flying Dutch quartet included Ava Schmidt, Grace Behrens, Helen Dodge, and Sara Schermerhorn.  Trine University finished second with a time of 49.25 and Albion in third place (49.27).

Olivet College sophomore Emily Norkowski opened the women's competition with a winning 10.64m performance in the triple jump.  Calvin University freshman Katelyn DeJonge was the runner-up with a mark of 10.52m, followed by Hope freshman Elliana Johnson in third place (10.48m).

The Knights claimed the top two spots on the podium in the discus throw.  Sophomore Karen Bekhet won the event with a toss of 42.46m and freshman Ryann Rohrer finished second (40.92m).  Olivet senior Ashley Santo rounded out the top three with a throw of 39.58m.

Albion senior Samantha Bieth notched a victory in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 11:16.03.  Hope sophomore Maddy Struck was the runner-up after clocking in at 11:25.18, followed by Calvin sophomore Natalie Tebben in third place (11:36.99).

The Flying Dutch earned the top two finishes in the javelin with junior Elisabeth Strotman in first (36.07m) and senior Aarika Ediger in second (35.72m).  Adrian junior Audrey Salenbien completed the event in third place with a toss of 35.00m.

Albion senior Megan McCulloch finished the 1500m run over three seconds before the next runner with a time of 4:40.97.  Calvin sophomore Jenna Allman earned a second-place finish with a time of 4:44.32 while Hope senior Ellie Jankowski concluded the race in third (4:45.79).

Senior Ericka Bigham of Alma College defended her championship title in the 400m run with a time of 56.83.  Hope senior Grace Behrens was the runner-up after clocking in at 58.06, followed by Olivet sophomore Lily Connelly in third place (58.90).

Albion junior Nayaisha Edmond notched a victory in the 100m hurdles after clocking in at 15.61.  Olivet's Emily Norkowski clinched second place with a time of 15.98 while Trine freshman Brynn Mericle rounded out the top three (16.11).

Hope freshman Sara Schermerhorn just missed a record by 0.05 in the 100m dash with her time of 12.15.  Albion's Avery Campbell placed second (12.21) and Trine's Mackenzie Miller completed the race in third after clocking in at 12.46.

Brianna Medcalf of Trine earned a first-place finish in the 800m run (2:15.99), followed by Adrian runner-up Emme Koutz (2:16.70).  Calvin's Delaney Sall was the third to cross the finish line with a time of 2:16.90.

Alma junior Andrea Taghon notched a victory in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:06.12.  Olivet junior London Eldridge came in second place (1:06.56) and was trailed by Trine freshman Brynn Mericle (1:06.58).

Hope's Sara Schermerhorn notched her second victory of the day after claiming the 200m dash title (24.98).  Albion's Avery Campbell earned a second-place finish with a time of 25.35, followed by Hope's Grace Behrens in third place (25.98).

The Flying Dutch swept the top three spots in the 5000m run with Ana Tucker in the No. 1 spot (17:46.10).  Rebecca Markham (18:17.83) and Anna Mason (18:19.43) were the next two to cross the finish line in second and third, respectively.

Hope concluded the 4x400m relay in first place with a time of 3:54.92.  The winning quartet included Julie Timperman, Samantha Schermerhorn, Erin Moran, and Grace Behrens.  Olivet was the runner-up after finishing in 4:08.95, followed by Calvin in third place (4:10.37).
