MIAA Women's Outdoor Track and Field Athletes Earn Seventeen All-Region Accolades

NEW ORLEANS, La. -- On May 19, women's outdoor track and field student-athletes from the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) received a total of seventeen All-Region accolades from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Assocation (USTFCCCA).

Top-5 individuals in each event from each region earned All-Region honors, in addition to each of the members of a top-3 ranked relay team.

Hope College was represented by five student-athletes on the All-Region list, including the All-Region 4x400m relay quartet.  Four athletes from Albion College were deemed All-Region, while three from Calvin University were recognized.  Adrian College placed two student-athletes on the All-Region list.

Hope senior Ana Tucker received All-Region recognition in three different events: the 1500m run, the 5000m run, and the 10,000m run.  Tucker was voted the 2023 MIAA Women's Most Valuable Track Athlete after assisting the Flying Dutch to the championship title this season.  Tucker opened the competition with a victory in the 10,000m run with a time about 42 seconds faster than the runner-up (37:29.26).  She then won the 5000m run with a time of 17:46.10.

Hope freshman Sara Schermerhorn is a two-time All-Region honoree with recognition for both the 200m dash and the 4x400m relay.  At the 2023 MIAA Championships, Schermerhorn notched a victory in the 200m dash with a time of 24.98.  She also competed in the winning 4x400m relay which finished in 3:54.92.

Both Tucker and Schermerhorn qualified for the NCAA Championships, which will be held May 25-27 at the Polisseni Track & Field Complex at St. John Fisher University in Rochester, New York.  Tucker will compete in both the 5000m run and the 10,000m run, while Schermerhorn will participate in the 200m dash and the 4x400m relay.  All-Region honorees Cailey Beaudoin of Adrian (high jump), Megan McCulloch of Albion (10,000m run), Jenna Allman of Calvin (steeplechase), Knight Karen Bekhet (discus), RyAnn Rohrer of Calvin (shot put), and the Hope 4x400m relay will compete on the national stage.
