Seven MIAA Women's Track & Field Programs, 23 Individuals Recognized by USTFCCCA for Academic Achievements

NEW ORLEANS, La. -- On July 13, all seven women's track and field programs from the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) were deemed All-Academic Teams by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).  Additionally, twenty-three MIAA individuals were announced as All-Academic Athletes.

The Calvin University women's track and field program leads the conference with a grade-point average of 3.67, followed by Hope College with a 3.57 GPA.  The University of Olivet achieved a 3.53 grade-point average.  Both Albion College and Trine University finished with a GPA of 3.52.  Alma College (3.49) and Adrian College (3.13) round out the seven MIAA teams.

Here is the criteria to be named an All-Academic Team…

Division III Track & Field All-Academic Teams

  • Cumulative team GPA (not 2022-23 academic year, not semester) of all student-athletes who used a season of eligibility must be at least a 3.1 on a 4.0 scale through the most recent semester/quarter, computed by the following method:
  • Total the cumulative number of semester hours or quarter hours earned for all student-athletes who used a season of eligibility, including the most recent grading period;
  • Total the cumulative number of quality points (GPA multiplied by the number of credit hours) earned by all student-athletes who used a season of eligibility, including the most recent grading period;
  • Divide the cumulative number of quality points earned by the cumulative number of semester or quarter hours earned.
  • Institutions utilizing a different GPA scale than 4.0 then must convert the GPA to a 4.0 scale using the standard conversion method [GPA/Scale x 4.0]. Data must be certifiable by the institution’s registrar.
  • Graduate students must take all undergraduate plus graduate coursework into account.

Twenety-three student-athletes from the MIAA were named All-Academic Athletes in NCAA Division III Women’s Track & Field.

Hope is represented by eleven All-Academic Athletes, followed by Calvin with four individuals and Adrian with three on the list.  Two Trine athletes received academic recognition and one from Albion, Alma, and Olivet.

Here is the criteria to be named an All-Academic Athlete:

Division III Track & Field All-Academic Athletes

  • Minimum cumulative grade point average of a 3.25 on a 4.0 scale through the end of the semester of competition. Institutions utilizing a different GPA scale must convert the GPA to a 4.0 scale using the standard conversion method [GPA/Scale x 4.0]. Data must be certifiable by the institution’s registrar.
  • Must have completed at least 24 semester hours/36 quarter hours through the end of the semester of competition at the institution.
  • Transfer students and/or graduate students are to include only grades earned at the current nominating institution.
  • The student-athlete must have achieved an automatic or provisional qualifying mark (individual or relay event) for either the indoor season or outdoor season.
