11 MIAA Student-Athletes Qualify for 2022 NCAA Women's Track and Field Championship

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- On Friday, the NCAA announced the selections for the 2022 NCAA Division III Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championships, scheduled for May 26-28 at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.

Six MIAA programs will send at least one competitor to the national event.  Calvin will be represented by four athletes competing at the NCAA Championships, while Albion and Trine will have two athletes each.  Adrian, Hope, and Olivet will be sending one student-athlete.

Trine senior Evie Miller will compete as a top-five seed in two different prelim events.  She is the top seed in the steeplechase and the No. 5 seed in the 5,000m run.  Hope junior Ana Tucker and Calvin junior Sadie Heeringa will also participate in the 5,00m run as the seventh and ninth seeds, respectively.  Sophomore Knight will compete in the steeplechase with Miller.

Tucker will additionally race as the No. 8 seed in the 10,000m run, while Heeringa will run in the 1500m run as the ninth seed.

Senior Valerie Obear of Trine earned the second seed in the hammer throw and will compete alongside Albion senior and the 2022 MIAA Most Valuable Field Athlete Anna Albaugh.  Obear will also participate in the discus throw.

Calvin sophomore Delaney Sall will race as the fifth-seeded athlete in the 800m prelims.  Junior teammate Kamryn Elgersma is seeded eighth in the javelin with a seed mark of 43.45m.

Adrian sophomore Cailey Beaudoin will leap in the high jump, Olivet senior Lillian Albaugh will compete in the shot put, and Albion junior Elena Welker will participate in the heptathlon.

For each women’s individual event contested, including the heptathlon, the top 22 declared student-athletes were accepted into the competition.  For each relay event contested, the top 16 declared relay teams, one per institution, were accepted into the competition.
