Nine All-America Honors Earned by MIAA Student-Athletes at 2022 NCAA DIII Outdoor Track and Field Championships

GENEVA, Ohio -- Student-athletes from the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) earned a total of nine All-America accolades at the 2022 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships, held May 26-28 at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.


Women's Recap

For the first time in her career, Trine senior Evie Miller became a national champion in the steeplechase following a time of 10:07.06.  She improved on her previous second-place prelim time of 10:42.37 for All-America honors.  Calvin sophomore Jenna Allman concluded the event in 11th place with a personal-best time of 10:52.03.

Sophomore Delaney Sall of Calvin earned All-American status after landing the 800m run in fourth place with a PR time of 2:08.23.

Calvin senior Kamryn Elgersma earned All-American honors following a fifth-place finish in the javelin with a throw of 42.40m.  Elgersma became the fourth individual in Calvin women's track and field history to achieve All-America accolades.

In the 5,000m run, Hope junior Ana Tucker and Calvin junior Sadie Heeringa were both deemed All-Americans after finishing in fifth (16:36.43) and sixth (16:39.23) place, respectively.  Both runners broke their schools' records.

Heeringa also received All-America honors in the 1,500m run after clocking in at a personal-best time of 4:30.53 for a fifth-place finish.

An eight-place finish for Tucker was enough to secure All-America status in the 10,000m run.  She clocked in at 36:13.36 to become a three-time All-American.  This is the fourth time in Hope history that a Flying Dutch runner has claimed All-America honors in the event.

Adrian sophomore Cailey Beaudoin just missed the All-America mark with a ninth-place finish in the high jump (1.66m).

As the 21st seed in the shot put, Olivet senior Lillian Albaugh finished in 15th place with a throw of 13.44m.

Albion junior Elena Welker concluded the heptathlon in 19th place, while Trine senior Valerie Obear finished the discus throw in 20th place (32.61m).

Obear and Albion senior Anna Albaugh both competed in the hammer throw.


Men's Recap

Trine junior Jake Gladieux earned All-American status for a third time his career.  He completed the 110m hurdles in sixth place with a time of 14.31.  Gladieux finished the 400m hurdles in 12th place with a time of 53.17.

After a personal record-breaking performance in the shot put, Albion sophomore Derrelle Murray claimed All-America honors in the shot put.  Murray's throw of 16.29m placed him eighth in the event.

Olivet junior Jordon Brown completed the 400m dash in ninth place with a time of 48.21.

Adrian senior Derek Plitt competed in both the 100m dash and the 200m dash. Plitt tied his personal record in the 200m dash after clocking in at 21.25 for an 11th-place finish.  In the 100m dash, Plitt finished 16th with a time of 10.72.

Junior Mason Darden of Albion, who was seeded 17th in the hammer, threw 53.89m for a 15th-place finish.

Hope senior Nick Hoffman finished the 1,500m run in 17th place with a time of 3:54.31.
