Recent Calvin University graduate Annie Needs has been named a CoSIDA Academic All-American.

A native of Peru, Illinois, Needs has been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Second Team in the Division III Women's Track and Field/Cross Country Division.

A graduate of Saint Bede Academy, Needs is receiving CoSIDA Academic All-America honors for the first time.

Last May, she wrapped up a standout distance running career that included an All-America finish in the 3,000 meter steeplechase this past May at the NCAA III Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

Needs was graduated from Calvin with a degree in chemical engineering. She was part of a senior design project this past spring that included designing and simulating a production facility for a new pharmaceutical called Larazotide Acetate which was created as the first treatment for celiac disease.

On the track, Needs was a two-time MIAA champion in the 3,000 meter steeplechase earning All-MIAA Outdoor Track and Field honors in 2019 and 2021. This spring, she was named MIAA Runner of the Week once. During the 2019 cross country season, she earned All-MIAA Second Team honors and later finished 41st at the Great Lakes Regional meet and 105th at the NCAA III Championships.

This spring she capped off her running career with an All-America finish in the steeplechase, placing sixth at the NCAA III Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Needs was named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic list in cross country in 2019 and is line to receive the same award in track and field later this summer.

Needs is one of three members of the Calvin cross country/track and field program to receive CoSIDA Academic All-America honors as Jon Ellis (1st Team) and Bryce Reynolds (2nd Team) were so honored today. Combined, Calvin produced five CoSIDA Academic All-Americans for the 2020-21 academic year.
