ANGOLA, Ind. -- Hope College was crowned the MIAA Women's Indoor Track and Field Champion on February 25, 2023, at Trine's Keith E. Busse/Steel Dynamics Athletic and Recreation Center.  This is the fourth championship title for the Flying Dutch since 2018.  Hope finished with a total of 211 points, ahead of second-place Calvin (105 points) and third-place Trine (97.5 points).

Hope senior Ana Tucker broke her previous record of 4:57.92 from 2021 by over four seconds (4:53.20).  Junior Knight Jenna Allman was the runner-up with a time of 5:09.51, followed by Hope senior Ellie Jankowski in third place (5:09.96).

Freshman Sara Schermerhorn of Hope earned her first MIAA Championship title in record-breaking fashion with a time of 7.82 in the 60m dash.  The previous record of 7.87 was set by Albion's Avery Campbell last year.  Trine sophomore Mackenzie Miller claimed second place with a time of 7.92, followed by Hope senior Helen Dodge to round out the top three (8.19).

Alma senior Ericka Bigham broke the record in the 400m dash with a time of 58.58.  The previous record of 58.84 was set in 2017 by Trine's Jenna Gales.  Junior Brit Avery Campbell claimed the No. 2 spot on the podium with a time of 59.48, followed by Hope senior Grace Behrens in third place (59.86).

Hope's Sara Schermerhorn broke her second record of the day in the 200m dash (25.55).  The previous record of 25.69 was set in 2018 by Albion's Layla Wilks.  Avery Campbell of Albion was the runner-up after clocking in at 26.35 and Trine's Mackenzie Miller finished in third place (26.51).

Ana Tucker of Hope also broke her second MIAA record of the day with a time of 9:52.67, nearly 30 seconds before the next runner to cross the finish line.  Tucker set the previous record of 9:58.70  in 2021.  Albion senior Megan McCulloch was the runner-up with a time of 10:21.87 and was trailed by Calvin's Jenna Allman in third (10:22.35).

Olivet senior Gabby Jolliff tied the MIAA Championship record in the pole vault.  The initial record of 3.30m was set by Comet Michaela Kaliniak in 2018.  Hope freshman Thea Niedritis-Newkirk, Trine sophomore Morgan Moslow, and Calvin sophomore Bella Charron each finished with a 3.20m.

Junior Bulldog Cailey Beaudoin defended her championship title in the high jump by tying her record from last year of 1.63m.  Hope freshman Natalie Christnagel was the runner-up with a leap of 1.60m.  Adrian sophomore Ciara Heslet and Hope sophomore Allison Schram both had a 1.57m performance.

The Flying Dutch closed out the MIAA Championships in record-breaking fashion with a time of 4:04.84 in the 4 x 400m relay, over 11 seconds quicker than their opponents.  The previous record of 4:05.80 was set by Trine in 2018.  Hope's winning quartet included senior Julie Timperman, freshman Sara Schermerhorn, junior Erin Moran, and senior Grace Behrens.  Alma was the runner-up after clocking in at 4:16.53 and was trailed by Trine in third place (4:17.02).

Albion senior Lauren McDowell notched a victory in the long jump with a leap of 5.29m.  Calvin senior Onyinyechi Iheme was just 0.02m shy of McDowell's performance and Hope's Helen Dodge placed third (4.97m).

Hope sophomore Greta Robrahn completed the shot put in first place with a throw of 12.61m, earning 10 points for the Flying Dutch.  Freshman teammate Kamryn Bice was the runner-up (12.46m), while Trine senior Madelyn Summers rounded out the top three (11.94m).

The Flying Dutch defended their championship title in the distance medley relay with a time of 13:09.59.  The winning quartet included seniors Ellie Jankowski, Heleyna Tucker, Emily Unger, and Ana Tucker.  Trine finished in second place (13:22.92), followed by Albion in third place (13:27.17).

Sophomore Tess Anthony of Albion won the weight throw with a mark of 15.49m.  Trine's Madelyn Summers claimed the No. 2 spot on the podium (15.27m), followed by Adrian junior Bryanna Carey in third place (14.25m).

Junior Nayaisha Alexander Edmond notched a victory in the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.34.  Trine freshman Brynn Mericle placed second after clocking in at 9.64 and was trailed by Calvin freshman Mia DeJonge (9.71).

Albion's Megan McCulloch finished the 5000m run nearly 25 seconds faster than the runner-up with a time of 17:41.75.  Hope junior Rebecca Markham claimed second place (18:06.70) and sophomore teammate Maddy Struck third with a time of 18:08.71.

Freshman Knight Katelyn DeJonge won the triple jump with a leap of 10.32m.  Olivet sophomore Emily Norkowski was the runner-up (10.28m) and Albion senior Peyton Smith claimed third with a 10.15m jump.

Calvin junior Delaney Sall defended her championship title in the 800m run with a time of 2:20.43.  The Flying Dutch claimed the next three spots with Ellie Jankowski in second (2:22.21), junior Erin Moran in third (2:22.59), and senior Samantha Schermerhorn in fourth (2:23.12).
