NCAA DIII Indoor Track and Field Championships - Day One Recap

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Four individuals from the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) punched a ticket to the finals following day one of the 2022 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships, held at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.  Both the Calvin women's and the Hope men's distance medley relays earned All-American status today.

Trine University senior Evie (Bultemeyer) Miller punched her ticket to the finals after concluding the mile prelim in a top time of 4:58.16.  Miller will compete in the final for this event on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.  She will also run in the 3000m event on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. with Calvin's Sadie Heeringa.

Trine junior Jake Gladieux will be joining Miller in representing the Thunder in the finals after improving on his No. 9 seed with a third-place finish in the 60m hurdle prelims, clocking in at a school-record time of 8.10.  The 60m hurdle finals will take place on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.

Senior Derek Plitt of Adrian College earned a spot in the 60m dash finals after finishing seventh during the prelims (6.85).  He will also be competing in the 200m dash finals following his school record-breaking performance with a time of 21.76 during prelims.  The 60m dash finals are scheduled for Saturday at 3:40 p.m., followed by the 200m dash finals at 4:20 p.m.

Calvin sophomore Delaney Sall was the next MIAA student-athlete to punch a ticket to the finals.  During prelims, Sall finished the 800m run in 2:13.66 for a fifth-place finish.  Sall will compete in the 800m run finals on Saturday at 3:50 p.m.

On the women's side, Calvin's distance medley relay earned All-Americas status after concluding the event in fifth place with a time of 11:46.92.  The quartet included Sall, Cora Moore, Jenna Allman, and Heeringa.

On the men's side, Hope's distance medley relay also reached All-American status with a fourth-place finish in a time of 9:59.08.  The quartet included Connor Vachon, Nathan Trumble, Elijah Meder, and Nick Hoffman.

Alma senior Bailey Hoffman improved on her No. 18 seed with a 15th-place finish in the weight throw (15.82m).  Teammate Ericka Bigham finished 19th in the 400m dash after clocking in at 58.74.
