Around the MIAA

Adrian

The Adrian College track and field team participated at the Hillsdale Tune-Up over the weekend. The Bulldogs saw three third place finishes during Saturday's event. Ashly Luther placed third in the high jump at 1.47m. Abbie Lefevre added a third place finish in the long jump with a distance of 4.88m, and Eris Thomas placed third in the 60m dash with a time of 8.27.


Albion

Albion finished second in their final tune-up before the MIAA indoor championships at the Hillsdale tune-up. The second-place Britons received balanced scoring in the field and on the track. ShaQuoria Thompson placed second in both the shot put and weight throw. Anna Albaugh also placed in both throws.  


Alma

Several members of the Alma College track and field team competed at the Saginaw Valley State University Tune-Up Feb. 21. Charley Hengesbach (Saginaw, Mich.) finished seventh in the shot put with a distance of 11.76 meters. Bailey Hoffman (Olivet, Mich.) finished eighth with 11.72 meters. Mariah Dunkin placed ninth with 11.67 meters. Sophie Patrick finished just outside the finals with a distance of 11.64 meters.


Calvin

Calvin women’s track and field had a group of distance runners compete at the GVSU Tune-Up Invitational Friday night. Sadie Heeringa had a career race in the mile with her best time of 4:58.31 which currently ranks 12th on the NCAA III Indoor performance list. Jenna Gaffner finished second place in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 19:36.16, and Haley Weesies was ninth in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:25.51.


Hope

In the final meet before the MIAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, three Hope College athletes won events at the Grand Valley State University Tune-Up on Friday. Distance runner Sarah Grimes, hurdler Mitchel Achien'g and triple jumper Addyson Gerig all were victories during the non-scoring meet in Allendale, Michigan. Gerig took first in the triple jump with a leap of 10.35 meters (33 feet, 11 ½ inches). Grimes won the 5,000 meters with a time of 19:33.51. Achien'g tied for first in the 60-meter dash by recording a time of 9.13 seconds that matched GVSU's Brittany Rainey.


Olivet

Olivet geared up for the 2020 MIAA Championships by competing at the Hillsdale Tune Up. Junior Natalee Klee ran personal-best times of 29.83 seconds in the 200-meter dash and 1:07.93 in the 400-meter dash. Sophomore Madison Dexter had a PR in the 400-meter dash at 1:06.70.


Trine

Did not compete as a team...Evie Bultemeyer ran in the 800-meter at the Alex Wilson Invitational hosted by the University of Notre Dame...she placed 14th overall in the event among mostly NCAA Division I athletes and improved upon her Trine indoor record with a time of 2:11.96.
