Albion

Layla Wilks won the sprinting events and ShaQuoria Thompson won the throwing events to lead the Albion College women’s track & field team to first place in its first indoor competition of the season. Albion was first out of six teams assembled for the Robert H. Johnson Open. The Britons finished with 141 points, 38 ahead of second-place St. Mary-of-the-Woods College. Wilks was the leader as Albion collected a bunch of points in the sprints. Albion rolled up 28 points in the 60-meter event. Wilks reached the finish line in 8.06 seconds, for a .16 second margin of victory over teammate Chalara Sutton. Alexis McGinley finished fourth, Cianna Brown was fifth and Emily Kinser was sixth. Wilks set a winning time of 26.54 seconds in the 200 meters as Albion collected 21 points in the event. Sutton was fourth, Brown was fifth and Kinser was sixth. Sutton, Brown and Kinser joined Lauren McDowell for a runner up finish in the 4x400 relay. The Britons achieved a time of 4:27.72. Albion also scored 21 points in the weight throw. Thompson’s best attempt was measured at 51’ 7”. Anna Albaugh was the runner up and Shelbi Etherington finished fourth. Thompson set a winning throw of 39’ 5 ¾” in the shot put. Albaugh was fifth. Ashley Dubois produced Albion’s other first place finish in the field, competing unopposed in the triple jump. Her first attempt – 32’ 1” – was her best. Dubois also finished fourth in the 300 meters. Dria Grant produced a first place finish for Albion in the 60-meter hurdles, reaching the finish in 10.01 seconds.

Alma

The Scots traveled to Saginaw Valley State University on Friday (Dec. 6). The meet served as the indoor season opener for the Scots. The meet consisted of mostly NAIA and NCAA Division II schools. Junior Stephanie Davis (Elmira, Mich.) became the first female athlete in program history to compete in the indoor pentathlon. The indoor pentathlon consists of five track and field events, the shotput, high jump, long jump, 60-meter hurdles, and 800-meter run. Overall Davis finished in 10th place with 2442 points out of 12 athletes. Other Scots competing were juniors Grace Hearth (Freeland, Mich.) and Audrey Padilla (Manistee, Mich.). Hearth finished in 21st place in the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.46 seconds, while Padilla earned a 12th place finish in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:03.93. 


Calvin

Hope

Mitchel Achien'g set one Hope College indoor track and field record in one event and bettered her own school record in another on Friday at the Grand Valley State University Holiday Open. The senior from Nairobi, Kenya (Kisumu School) clocked a record 60-meter hurdle time of 9.22 seconds at Kelly Family Sports Center in Allendale, Michigan. Achien'g passed the nine-year-old mark of 9.34 held by Kara VandeGuchte. She finished 12th in the meet that featured competitors from all three NCAA divisions and NAIA. In the triple jump, Achien'g topped her school record set last season by leaping 11.01 meters (36 feet, 1 ½ inches) and finishing eighth. Her previous best was 10.75 meters (35-3 ¼). Senior Addyson Gerig of Holland, Michigan (West Ottawa) took 11th in the triple jump after going 10.56 meters (34-7 7/34). Gerig came in eighth in the high jump by clearing 1.54 meters (5-0 ½).


Olivet

Trine

Began 2019-20 indoor season at the unscored University of Indianapolis Season Opener...in field events, Stephanie Hartpence and Valerie Obear both finished fifth in the long jump and the weight throw. Hartpence had a distance of 15' 4" in the long jump and Obear had a toss of 49' 3" in the weight throw...Massie Jo Maskow had the top finish in the running events of ninth place in the 400-meter dash (1:07.00).
