Women's Recap
Hope won five individual events and the distance medley relay on the way to winning the 2020 MIAA Women's Indoor Track and Field Championship Feb. 29 at Trine's Athletic and Recreation Complex. Hope finished with 198.83 points, ahead of second-place Albion (123.33 points) and third-place Trine (116 points).
Three of those Hope wins came from Mitchel Achien'g, with two individual wins coming in record-breaking style. Achien'g set new MIAA marks in the triple jump (11.25m) and the 60m hurdles (9.02 in the final, 8.95 in the prelims) while also winning the long jump (5.35m). Achien'g also added a third-place finish in the 60m dash and a fifth in the 200m dash for a multi-faceted day.
Also scoring individual wins for Hope were Anna Frazee in the 3000m run (10:18.81) and Addyson Gerig in the high jump; Gerig cleared 1.62m for a new MIAA record.
Trine's Evie Bultemeyer was a three-time individual and one relay champion, as the junior won the 400m dash, the 800m run, and 1500m run; Bultemeyer turned in an MIAA-record time in the 800m run of 2:17.59. Bultemeyer aided Trine to winning the 4x400m relay with a time of 4:08.08.
Layla Wilks of Albion was again a two-time winner, defending titles in both the 60m dash and 200m dash for the third consecutive year. Wilks' winning time of 7.90 in the 60m dash re-set Wilks' own record from 2019 by 0.01.

Men's Recap
Trine halted Calvin's indoor track and field title streak with a key victory in the 3,000 meter run, four of the top five finishes in the 200m dash, and depth in both field and track events as the Thunder scored 159.50 points to claim the 2020 MIAA Men's Indoor Track and Field Championship Feb. 29 at Trine's Athletic and Recreation Complex.
With Calvin owning a 5.5 points lead over Trine following the 800m run, Trine went 2-3-4-5 in the 200m dash to score 23 points and move in front of the Knights. Leading the Trine effort was Jake Gladieux with a time of 22.64, while Ben Williams, Josh Davis, and Jacob Root followed.
From there, Trine distance runner Derek Miller held off a deep Calvin field to win the 3,000m run with an MIAA-record time of 8:40.49 to keep the Knights from re-taking the lead.
Miller was one of three individual winners for Trine: Gladieux won the 60m hurdles in 8.26, and Davis was victorious in the 60m dash with a time of 6.92.
Four men's records were set at Saturday's championship: Miller's 3000m run, Adrian's Daz Lawrence in the high jump (2.07m), Albion's Kejuan Frazier in the shot put (15.92m), and Bryce Reynolds of Calvin in the weight throw (18.28m).
