Around the MIAA

Adrian

The Adrian College women’s indoor track and field team came in fifth place in the MIAA Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday, with one athlete winning her event to be named All-MIAA. Senior Rayona Hart-Wilson won the long jump event with a PR and school record distance of 17’6.75”. She’s the first Adrian College women’s track and field athlete to be named All-MIAA for the indoor season since the Bulldogs had four such honors in 2016.


No. 18 Albion

Layla Wilks secured gold medals in the 60- and 200-meter events, Cassie Vince claimed gold in the 5,000 and bronze in the 800 and Hannah Almhiemid and Cedria Grant were the top two finishers in the 60 hurdles as Albion College finished third in the MIAA Women's Indoor Track & Field Championship.

Alma

The Scots wrapped up the indoor portion of the season at the MIAA Indoor Championships on Saturday (Feb. 23); Alma finished in seventh place. Senior Erin Goggins (Hastings, Mich.) took second place in the pole vault, clearing the bar at 3.25 meters. 


No. 57 Calvin

The Calvin women's Track and Field team placed fourth at the MIAA Indoor Track & Field Championships with 92 points on Saturday evening at the Alksnis facility on the campus of Aquinas College. Wining the Mile was senior Katie Diekema recording a time of 5:07.50. 


Hope

Junior Mitchel Achien'g (Nairobi, Kenya) had never done the triple jump in her career until last week. At the MIAA Championships, Achien'g won that event and set the school indoor record with a leap of 10.75 meters. Hope won both relays as well as two individual titles to place second overall.


Olivet

The Olivet College women's indoor track and field team placed sixth at the 2019 MIAA Championships. Freshman Lillian Albaugh won the MIAA title in the shot put with a 43 feet, 11-1/4 inch toss. The mark also tied the MIAA record. Senior Michaela Kaliniak defended her MIAA indoor title in the pole vault, clearing the bar at 10 feet, 8 inches. Sophomore Ariel Floyd placed second in the weight throw with a toss of 48 feet, 6 inches. Albaugh was eighth in the weight throw (41 feet, 11-1/2 inches).


No. 40 Trine

The Trine University women's indoor track and field team captured its first conference indoor title with its first place finish at the 2019 MIAA Championship hosted by Calvin. The Thunder finished with an overall score of 155.50 points to take top honors. Highlighting the meet was the performance of sophomore Evie Bultemeyer (Fort Wayne, Ind.) who won a pair of events, and set one MIAA record, and finished as runner-up in another.
