Around the MIAA

Adrian

The Bulldogs came in third place at the Defiance Invitational, narrowly missing out on second place by two team points. Rayona Hart-Wilson won the long jump and triple jump events, with distances of 16’5” and 33’3”, respectively. The Bulldogs’ 4x200 relay team also won, comprised of Hart-Wilson, Corrisa Hamilton, Kyla Sovran, and Taylor Sinclair. Last week’s MIAA Women’s Track Athlete of the Week Britney Carnagie came in second place in the 60-meter hurdles.


No. 15 Albion

Cassie Vince achieved an Albion record and the No. 2 time in Division III at this point of the season in the mile on Saturday. The senior from Amherst, Ohio, completed the race in 4:54.84 to finish nearly six seconds ahead of Calvin's Katie Diekema. Boosted by a first-place performance by Kimberly Barber in the triple jump and Layla Wilks’ win in the 200 meters and runner-p finish in the 55-meter dash, Albion finished fourth in the team standings of the Dr. William Taraschke Team Challenge. Barber, who achieved a school record of 35’ 10 ¾” in the triple jump, also ran on both relays for Albion. She was joined by Wilks, Chalara Sutton and Allison Butler as the 4x200 team finished second. Barber, Cianna Brown, Dria Grant, and Butler were third in the 4x400 event. ShaQuoria Thompson achieved a school record (42’ ½”) to finish second in the shot put.

Alma

The Scots took second place at the Defiance Invitational on Saturday (Jan. 26). Sophomore Grace Hearth (Freeland, Mich.) reached 1.47 meters in the high jump, placing second. In the pole vault event, senior Erin Goggins (Hastings, Mich.) took second at 3.25 meters.


Calvin

The Knights took sixth place at the Dr. William Taraschke Team Challenge on Saturday at the Lou Higgins Recreation Center. The Knights had some key performances on the day. Junior Allison Rozell finished in third place in the long jump with a jump of 4.82m. Winning the 5,000 meter run was freshman Sadie Heeringa with a time of 18:45.59. Finishing in second place was junior Michelle Koetje who recorded a time of 18:55.70. Senior Katie Diekema claimed a second-place finish in the mile run crossing the finish line with a time of 5:00.41. Diekema's time currently ranks sixth on the NCAA Division III performance list. The Knights return to action on Friday as they compete in the GR Sports Hall of Fame meet at Aquinas College.


Hope

Jacinda Cole clocked a winning effort in the 1-mile run to lead the Flying Dutch at Aquinas College on Friday. The sophomore from Holland, Mich. recorded a run of 5:28.18. The Flying Dutch had three of the race’s five fastest times. Hope was runner-up in three events and took third in three more. The Flying Dutch finished fourth in the team standings. Junior Chelsea Miskelley (Holland, Mich.) took second in the 800 meters with a run of 2:23.33. Freshman Julia Robleski (Wheaton, Ill.) placed second in the 3,000 meters after clocking a time of 11:00.34. Hope’s 4x400 relay of junior Nicole Kruithof (Byron Center, Mich.), junior Hailey Pickelheimer (Powell, Ohio), senior Allison VanderStoep (Holland, Mich.), and Miskelley posted a runner-up effort of 4:15.33.


Olivet

The Comets placed fifth at the Defiance (Ohio) College Invitational. Senior Michaela Kaliniak won and broke the school record in the pole vault, clearing the bar at 10 feet, 11-3/4 inches. Freshman Lillian Albaugh finished second in the shot put (41 feet, 8-1/2 inches). Sophomore Ariel Floyd placed fifth in the shot put (36 feet, 9-3/4 inches) and sixth in the weight throw (45 feet, 3-1/2 inches). On the track, the distance medley quartet of Laura Tuttle, Sarah Feldpausch, Samantha Torres, and Jessica Taylor was first with a time of 15:09.26.


Trine

Trine placed ninth overall and was the lone non-scholarship school in the field of 18 teams at the Grand Valley State Universitiy Open. Evie Bultemeyer broke the school record in the mile with the third-best time by a NCAA Division III competitor so far this season with a mark of 4:54.89. Bultemeyer's time broke the school record by nearly 11 seconds (5:05.6).
