Around the MIAA
Adrian
The Adrian College women’s indoor track and field team opened its season at the Tiffin Open last Saturday. Freshman distance runner Corrisa Hamilton finished second in the 800 meter at Tiffin and seventh in the mile. She’s currently fourth in the conference in the 800 meter. Sophomore hurdler Britney Carnagie set a new PR in the 60 meter hurdles and is currently first in the MIAA for the 60 meter hurdles. She also picked up the Women’s Track Athlete of the Week award this week.
#25 Albion
Alma
The Alma College track and field team competed at the Doug Hansen Open at Saginaw Valley State University last week and several Scots earned top-ten finishes. Sophomore Grace Hearth (Freeland, Mich.) and senior Erin Goggins (Hastings, Mich.) both took eighth place in the high jump and pole vault, respectively.
Calvin
The Calvin women's track and field team took 10th at the GVSU Mike Lints Open on Saturday. Senior Katie Diekema (Kenmore, Wash.) led the charge for Calvin by taking sixth in the 3,000 meter run with a time of 9:55.07. Her time currently ranks fifth on the NCAA III Indoor Track and Field Performance list. Calvin also piled up points in the 5,000 meter run as junior Leah Bishop (Grand Rapids, Mich.) was fifth (19:00.34), senior Maria Kuiper (Holland, Mich.) sixth (19:10.80) and senior Breanna Kooiman (Tinley Park, Ill.) seventh (19:14.99). Calvin returns to action next Saturday when it competes at the Baldwin-Wallace William Taraschke Invitational.
Hope
The Hope College women's indoor track and field team finished in 8th place, out of 15 teams, behind three solid jumping performances by Addyson Gerig at Grand Valley State University's Mike Lints Open. Gerig finished in the top eight in three events: sixth place in triple jump (9.75- meters); seventh place in the high jump (1.53 meters), and, seventh place in the long jump (4.95 meters). Hope finished with 16 points.
Olivet
The Olivet College women's indoor track & field team participated in the Saginaw Valley "Doug Hansen" Open. One week after breaking the record in the shot put, freshman Lillian Albaugh broke her own record in the event with a second-place toss of 42 feet, 5-1/2 inches. Sophomore Ariel Floyd set a school-record mark of 49 feet, 1-3/4 inches in the weight throw. She also placed fifth in the shot put (36 feet, 11-1/4 inches).
