Hope Holds On to MIAA Women's Tennis Tournament Championship Title for 11th-Straight Season

Hope College women's tennis won its eleventh-straight Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Tournament title after notching a 5-3 victory at Kalamazoo College on Friday, April 28, 2023.

Hope earned two of the three doubles points, giving the Flying Dutch an early 2-1 lead.

Duo Amanda Lopykinski and Sullivan Moran had an 8-6 edge over Renee Torres and Sophie Zhuang at the top doubles flight.  At No. 2 doubles, Meghan Killmaster and Maddie Hurley earned an 8-5 win for the Hornets versus Miyako Coffey and Taylor Truman.  Recording the final Hope doubles point was Delanie Riebschleger and Annika Weeber with an 8-3 win against Ivy Walker and Rebecca Elias.

At No. 1 singles, 2023 MIAA Most Valuable Player Renee Torres of Kalamazoo earned a three-set victory against Amanda Lopykinski (6-3, 3-6, 6-2).

Hope's Sullivan Moran won her No. 2 singles match 7-5, 6-2 against 2023 Karen Caine Award recipient Sophie Zhuang.

Annika Weeber tallied a 6-0, 6-2 win against Hornet Meghan Killmaster at No. 3 singles.

At No. 4 singles, Kalamazoo's Maddie Hurley notched a 6-1, 6-1 victory against Hope Rhoades.

The No. 5 singles match went unfinished.  Hope's Miyako Coffey was up 6-4, 5-4 against Eleni Bougioukou when the Flying Dutch clinched the win.

Hope's Taylor Truman earned a 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles vs. Ivy Walker.

The Flying Dutch receive the league's automatic berth to the NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championship which will be held May 14-22 at the USTA National Campus (Collegiate Center) in Orlanda, Florida.  The women's tennis teams selection show is scheduled for Monday, May 1, at noon.  The press release announcing qualifying individuals will be announced on Wednesday, May 3.
