Kalamazoo Earns 2023 MIAA Women's Tennis Championship Crown

HUDSONVILLE, Mich. -- The Kalamazoo College women's tennis program won the 2023 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association's (MIAA) after going undefeated in league competition.  This is the first time since 2007 and the 41st time in program history that Kalamazoo was crowned the regular-season champion.

The Hornets are currently ranked 20th in the Central Region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).  In singles, senior Renee Torres is regionally ranked 24th.

On the way to clinching the outright title, head coach Mark Murphy tallied his 150th career victory with a 9-0 win at Trine University on April 22.

The undefeated Hornets will compete as the top seed in the MIAA Women's Tennis Tournament which will be held April 26 (semifinals) and April 28 (championship).

Joining Kalamazoo in the four-team MIAA Women's Tennis Tournament are Hope College (6-1), Saint Mary's College (5-2), and Calvin University (4-3).

The Hornets will host fourth-seeded Calvin in the semifinals at 4:00 p.m., while No. 2 Hope will host No. 3 Saint Mary's at 4:00 p.m.  The highest-remaining seed will host the final match on April 28.
