Hope Women's Tennis Falls to No. 11 Carnegie Mellon in NCAA Regional Semifinals

The Hope College women's tennis team lost to 11th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University, 5-0, in the regional semifinals of the NCAA Division III Tournament on Friday in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

The 40th-ranked and MIAA champion Flying Dutch finished the season with a 19-8 overall record.

Regional host Carnegie Mellon will face fifth-ranked Middlebury College (Vt.) in the regional final on Saturday, May 14.

Carnegie Mellon opened Hope's sixth consecutive regional semifinal appearance by sweeping doubles.

At No. 1 doubles, Lindy Cornwal and /Bin Zheng topped Hope senior Sydney Jackson (Fort Wayne, Indiana / Carroll HS) and freshman Sullivan Moran (Birmingham, Michigan / Wylie E. Groves), 8-2.

At No. 2 doubles, Janabelle Wu and Crystal Zhou defeated Hope senior Saydee Johns (Holland, Michigan / Holland) and junior Taylor Truman (Hudsonville, Michigan / Hudsonville), 8-1.

At No. 3 doubles, Zoe Angell and Megan Qiang defeated Hope sophomore Annika Weeber (Rockford, Michigan / Rockford) and junior Delanie Riebschleger (Rockford, Michigan / Rockford), 8-0.

Carnegie Mellon closed out the match with 6-0, 6-0 wins at No. 3 singles with Cornwall downing Weeber and No. 6 singles with Qiang topping freshman Miyako Coffey (Cedar Rapids, Iowa / St. Xavier).
