The Flying Dutch claimed their ninth-consecutive Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Women's Tennis Tournament title following a 5-3 victory over Kalamazoo on May 7.

2021 MIAA Most Valuable Player Sydney Jackson clinched the win for the Flying Dutch with a third-set victory at No. 1 singles (6-7(4), 6-1, 6-1).

Hope secured two doubles points to start the championship match, while Kalamazoo tallied the other.  At No. 1 doubles, Jackson and First Team All-MIAA honoree Leah Newhof notched an 8-3 victory.  Taylor Truman and Second Team All-MIAA player Saydee Johns earned the second doubles point for the Flying Dutch with an 8-3 win at No. 3 doubles.

Kalamazoo's Renee Torres and First Team All-MIAA player Caroline Norton partnered up at No. 2 doubles for an 8-5 victory.

Karen Caine Award recipient and Second Team All-MIAA player Bailey Chorney was first off the courts with a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles.

Newhof was the next Hope player to secure a point, winning her No. 2 singles match 6-2, 6-4.

At No. 4 singles, Second Team All-MIAA player Sophie Zhuang of Kalamazoo earned a 6-3, 6-4 victory.

Torres tallied the final point for the Hornets with a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 5 singles.

Hope earns an automatic berth to the NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championship.  The NCAA will release the bracket on Monday, May 10, at 12:00 p.m.
