FREELAND, Mich. -- At the conclusion of the spring 2021 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) women's tennis regular season, head coaches from the MIAA's nine member institutions that sponsor women's tennis voted on All-MIAA awards.
Hope junior Sydney Jackson was named the 2021 MIAA Most Valuable Player after assisting the Flying Dutch to the MIAA Championship title and a perfect league record of 7-0. Jackson posted an 11-1 record at No. 1 singles, going undefeated in conference play (7-0). At 1 doubles, Jackson and Leah Newhof partnered for an overall mark of 11-1. Jackson went undefeated at No. 1 doubles in MIAA play with Newhof (4-0), as well as with Annika Weeber (3-0).
Senior Megan Davy of Saint Mary's received the Sue Little Sportsmanship Award for her second-straight season. The winner of this award is selected by the tennis players as best exemplifying courtesy and sportsmanship both on and off the courts. It is given in memory of Sue Little, a 1954 graduate of Albion College, and conference singles champion.
Hope senior Bailey Chorney earned the Karen Caine Scholar-Athlete Award. This accolade is named after Karen Caine, former long-term women’s tennis coach at Adrian College.
Hope's Leah Newhof and Davy are both now three-time All-MIAA recipients. Jackson, Kalamazoo's Helen Pelak, and Trine's Ashley Spirrison have all received All-MIAA accolades for a second time.
