Around the MIAA

Adrian (0-1, 0-0)

Adrian was unable to overcome NAIA-foe Lawrence Tech Sept. 4. The Bulldogs fell to the tune of 7-0.


Albion (0-0, 0-0)

Sept. 13 marks the start of Albion's fall season, when the Britons participate in the Hope College Invitational.


Alma (2-0, 0-0)

Alma won both its matches big, 8-1 over Manchester and 9-0 over Olivet last week. Senior Caroline Ross (Sandusky, Mich.) and freshman Amanda Szymborski won both their matches 6-0, 6-0. Junior Brooke Butterfield (Portland, Mich.) had Alma's only loss, 7-6, 6-2 to Manchester's number one singles player.


Calvin (0-0, 0-0)

Calvin will be at the Hope College Invitational Sept. 13-14.


Hope (0-0, 0-0)

Hope starts the fall campaign Sept. 13-14 when the Flying Dutchmen host Hope Invitational.


Kalamazoo (0-0, 0-0)

The Hornets will be at the Hope College Invitational Sept. 13-14 to start the fall season.


Olivet (2-1, 0-0)

Olivet split its two non-conference matches last week, beating Manchester (Ind.), 7-2, and losing 9-0 to Alma. Against Manchester, freshman Makenzie Borg won at No. 2 singles, and teamed with senior Miranda Pier for a win at No. 1 doubles. Freshman Anneliese Jones won at No. 3 singles, and teamed with sophomore Julia Miklusicak for a win at No. 2 doubles. Other wins were sophomore at No. 4 singles, senior Sydnie Weller at No. 5 singles and junior Alex Lesko at No. 6 singles.


Saint Mary's (0-0, 0-0)

The Belles begin the fall campaign Sept. 13-14 at the Hope Invitational.


Trine (0-2, 0-0)

Sophomore Ashley Spirrison (Fishers, Ind.) was named the MIAA women's tennis Athlete of the Week. Spirrison finished last week with an undefeated 4-0 record while competing in both No. 1 singles and doubles matches.
