Around the MIAA (through March 24)
Adrian (1-9, 0-0)
The Adrian College women’s tennis team lost to Spring Arbor 7-2 on Tuesday in its only match of the week. Sara Anthony won at three singles and Makayla Jorgensen took a point at five singles, in three sets. This is the Bulldogs’ second win of the year and fourth match they have won a point in.
Albion (4-4, 0-0)
Albion tuned up for its March 30 MIAA match at Adrian with an 8-1 victory over Grace Christian University on Tuesday. Lauren Solano, Saige Jost and Namara Swillum were 6-0, 6-1 winners in their singles matches. Marceline Redick and Madeline Samra also won their matches in straight sets. Solano and Kathryn Valade and Jost and Swillum produced Albion's points in doubles.
Alma (7-3, 0-0)
The women's tennis team dropped just 13 games en route to a 9-0 sweep of Grace College (Ind.) on Thursday. Two Scots earned 6-0 wins in singles competition, while seven singles games were decided by a 6-1 finish. Sophomore Brooke Butterfield (Portland, Mich. / Portland) led the way with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Mikyala Reynolds, then teamed up with freshman Abigail Davenport (Downers Grove, Ill.) to defeat Reynolds and Ashleigh Welty 8-0 in doubles play.
Calvin (7-3, 0-0)
Recorded four big wins in Orlando on Spring Break play.
#29 Hope (5-3, 0-0)
The Hope College women's tennis team posted a 3-1 record during its spring break trip to Orlando, Florida. The Flying Dutch's lone loss was to Division I Fordham (N.Y.), 6-1. Against Fordham, junior Claire Hallock (Lakeland, Fla.) earned Hope's point at No. 1 singles by topping Maia Balce, 6-1, 6-4 at the United States Tennis Association National Training Center.
Kalamazoo (4-4, 0-0)
The Kalamazoo College women's tennis team split a pair of matches in Oregon, winning 6-3 at Lewis & Clark on Saturday, March 23 before falling 8-1 at Linfield on Sunday, March 24. Maddy Winarski won both matches at No. 2 singles this week, and both in three sets. Winarski is 6-4 overall this season in singles including 4-2 at No. 2. The Hornets are scheduled to open MIAA play at home against Hope next Monday, April 1 at 4 p.m.
Olivet (2-7, 0-0)
The Olivet College women's tennis team defeated Grace Christian University, 7-2, in its only match last week. The Comets won matches at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles, and No. 1, 2, 4, 5 and 6 singles. Winning twice were Miranda Pier and Rae Claramunt won at No. 1 doubles, and then at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively.
Saint Mary's (7-4, 0-0)
The Belles have four matches this week, including back-to-back conference matches on Saturday versus Trine and Sunday at Olivet.
Trine (6-5, 0-0)
The Thunder fell just short in their two matches this week. They fell to visiting Bethel (Ind.) College by the score of 5-4 and the later fell to Wittenberg University. Freshman Ashley Spirrison (Fishers, Ind.) was the highlight of the week finishing 2-0 in both doubles and singles during the week.
